My story
Why I became a massage therapist
Over the course of my life I have been through car accidents, serious illness, and a long list of surgeries. For years I managed the pain with prescription medication, starting when I was just 14. I wanted a way to manage that pain without relying on medication day after day, and I found it in massage therapy.
In 1999, my own massage therapist, Michelle, began teaching me. She gave me books on somatics and massage and showed me different modalities and hand placements. She told me I would make a very good massage therapist. When she passed away in 2005, I had no choice but to carry on what she started, managing pain through a lifestyle of self-care and the study of massage therapy.
Today, that same lived experience shapes how I work. I understand what it is like to live with pain, to recover from surgery and injury, and to want real relief. I listen closely, I treat the cause and not just the ache, and I never stop learning.
Massage is a lifestyle that I practice on a continuous basis.
Massage is structure for me. It is a principle I live by daily, and I bring that same commitment to every session at Sozo.
